RECENTLY EDITED February 14, 2021

Dear Running Community, Followers and the General Public,

The unprecedented times continue. COVID-19 continues to impact individuals, communities, provinces and countries around the world. My thoughts are with all individuals personally affected, the medical professionals and the dedicated individuals working in the essential trades and businesses while we work hard to get through this.
For personal safety and the safety of everyone involved, it has been decided to delay the start.
It is still planned to complete the Home to Home run from "Mile 0" in Victoria BC, for Make-A-Wish Canada and Childhood Cancer Canada, but the starting date has been postponed until April 2021.
It is difficult to see other events around the world cancelled or postponed. We should all stand behind organizers who are making tough decisions to protect the health of athletes and the public in general. It is also difficult to see retailers and service providers suffering as they manage through their own impacts.
I encourage all who can to get outside and put one foot in front of the other to get out, keeping in mind social and physical distancing for the sake of everyone. Excercise is a source of positive energy, and we want to put as much of that energy into the world as possible when people are ready for it.
Donations will still be accepted and appreciated
Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments or questions.

The Story

Everyone fighting a critical illness or cancer deserves to have hope for the future.

Together, we can fulfill children’s wishes and find a cure for ALL cancer patients, including those who have run out of conventional                                                                              options, and give them another chance to beat this deadly disease.

I appreciate your consideration and hope you will FalloRick (me) on my running journey from Victoria, British Columbia to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in search of a cure and to help make wishes come true.

Running has always been my life’s passion.  I have participated in many marathons, including the Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, and Berlin Marathons and the New York City Marathon.  I am now ready to run the Marathon of My Life to help raise funds for two very important causes, Make-A-Wish Canada® and Childhood Cancer Canada® starting at “Mile 0” in Victoria, British Columbia on April 12th, 2021.

As a teacher, I have crossed paths with many children with critical illnesses who have wishes and dreams to fulfill. For the past number of years, my wife Colette and I have played an instrumental role in our City’s Annual Terry Fox Run, and have witnessed the overwhelming generosity of caring people who share a common goal...finding a cure for cancer. By combining my love of running with these two great causes I plan to fulfill a dream of my own, running 100 marathons (4200 km) and raising funds to help change children’s lives.

Make-A-Wish Canada grants magical wishes to children with critical illness from coast-to-coast;

Childhood Cancer Canada is dedicated to saving, enhancing and extending the lives of kids with cancer.

I know everyone has been touched by cancer or knows a child with a critical illness. I lost my  mother to lung cancer in October of 2013 and a niece who suffered for many years with an illness.

I have been inspired by heroes like Terry Fox, Rick Hanson and others who have run across Canada for their own causes, and now I am ready to embark on my own journey for such great causes.

As I run from Victoria, near my home town of Duncan, BC to Sault Ste. Marie, ON, where my home is now, I will be collecting charitable donations for Make-A-Wish Canada and Childhood Cancer Canada.

With Colette driving a support vehicle, I will primarily be running or paralleling the Trans Canada Highway. Depending on COVID-19 restrictions, stops along the way for speaking engagements or events to help support the two causes may need to be limited. My targeted audience will be the entire population of Canada and going global through social media with a goal of raising $300,000.
