Dear Running Community, Followers and the General Public,
THE LATEST UPDATE FOR THE START OF THE FalloRick Home to Home Run.
Everyone fighting a critical illness or cancer deserves to have hope for the future.
Together, we can fulfill children’s wishes and find a cure for ALL cancer patients, including those who have run out of conventional options, and give them another chance to beat this deadly disease.
I appreciate your consideration and hope you will FalloRick (me) on my running journey from Victoria, British Columbia to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in search of a cure and to help make wishes come true.
Running has always been my life’s passion. I have participated in many marathons, including the Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, and Berlin Marathons and recently completed the New York City Marathon. I am now ready to run the Marathon of My Life to help raise funds for two very important causes, Make-A-Wish Canada® and Childhood Cancer Canada® starting at “Mile 0” in Victoria, British Columbia on April 13th, 2020.
As a teacher, I have crossed paths with many children with critical illnesses who have wishes and dreams to fulfill For the past number of years, my wife Colette and I have played an instrumental role in our City’s Annual Terry Fox Run, and have witnessed the overwhelming generosity of caring people who share a common goal...finding a cure for cancer. By combining my love of running with these two great causes I plan to fulfill a dream of my own, running 100 marathons (4200 km) and raising funds to help change children’s lives.
Make-A-Wish Canada grants magical wishes to children with critical illness from coast-to-coast;
Childhood Cancer Canada is dedicated to saving, enhancing and extending the lives of kids with cancer.
I know everyone has been touched by cancer or knows a child with a critical illness. I lost my mother to lung cancer in October of 2013 and a niece who suffered for many years with an illness.
I have been inspired by heroes like Terry Fox, Rick Hanson and others who have run across Canada for their own causes, and now I am ready to embark on my own journey for such great causes.
As I run from Victoria, near my home town of Duncan BC to Sault Ste. Marie, ON, where my home is now, I will be collecting charitable donations for Make-A-Wish Canada and Childhood Cancer Canada.
With Colette driving a support vehicle, I will primarily be running or paralleling the Trans Canada Highway with stops along the way for speaking engagements or events to help support the two causes. My targeted audience will be the entire population of Canada and going global through social media with a goal of raising $300,000.
